What are some ways to protect paddy from soaking?

What are some ways to protect paddy from soaking?

Paddy ( un hulled rice) needs to be protected from excessive soaking at different stages, depending on whether it's growing in the field or stored after harvest. Here's how to tackle over-soaking in each scenario:

In the Paddy Field:

Field Drainage: Proper field drainage is crucial. Ensure the field has adequate channels and slopes to allow excess rainwater to drain efficiently.

Raised Beds: Consider using raised beds for paddy cultivation. This elevates the plants and allows for better water control, preventing them from sitting in stagnant water.

Water Management:

Implement proper irrigation practices. Avoid overwatering and adjust water levels based on the growth stage of the paddy and weather conditions.

After Harvest:

Drying: Thorough drying is essential after harvest. Spread the paddy on a clean, dry surface with good air circulation to remove excess moisture.

Storage: Store paddy in well-ventilated, raised containers that are off the ground. This prevents moisture from accumulating and damaging the grains.

Tarpaulins: During temporary storage outdoors, use tarpaulins or waterproof covers to protect the paddy from rain or excessive moisture.

By following these methods, you can minimize the risk of paddy from soaking excessively and ensure a healthy harvest.
