Which African country has the most biodiversity?

Which African country has the most biodiversity?

There are three main contenders for the title of most biodiverse African country:

Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC): The vast Congo Basin within the DRC is a hotspot for biodiversity. Rainforests, swamps, and mountains create a habitat for a vast array of species, including primates like gorillas and bonobos, and a mind-boggling diversity of fish in the Congo River.

Madagascar: This island nation is a biodiversity hotspot all on its own. Separated from mainland Africa for millions of years, Madagascar has unique plant and animal life found nowhere else on Earth, like lemurs and baobab trees.

South Africa: South Africa boasts incredible plant diversity, with several unique biomes like the Cape Floral Kingdom. It also has a healthy population of large mammals and a rich marine ecosystem.

While all three countries have strong arguments for the top spot, the Democratic Republic of the Congo is most often considered the winner due to the sheer size and variety of habitats within the Congo Basin.
