How do rugby league players score points?

How do rugby league players score points?

Rugby league players score points in two main ways:

  1. Tries (4 points):

  2. This is the primary method of scoring and is worth the most points. A try is scored by an attacking player grounding (touching) the ball with any part of their body over the opponent's try line (the line behind their goal posts).

  3. Goals (1 or 2 points):

  4. There are two types of kicks for goals:

  5. Penalty Goal (2 points):

  6. If the defending team commits a penalty (rule violation), the other team may be awarded a penalty kick at goal from the spot of the infringement. A successful penalty kick is worth 2 points.

There's also a less common way to score:

Conversion (2 points):

Kicking the ball over the opponent's goalposts after a try.

Penalty Goal (2 points):

Kicking the ball over the opponent's goalposts for a penalty.

Drop Goal (1 point): Dropping and kicking the ball over the opponent's goalposts during regular play.

  1. Conversion (2 points):

  2. After a try is scored, the scoring team gets a chance to kick the ball over the opponent's goalposts (between the posts and above the crossbar) for an additional 2 points. This kick is usually taken from directly in front of the posts where the try was scored.

  3. Drop Goal (1 point):

    Here's a quick summary:

    Try (4 points):

  4. Grounding the ball over the opponent's try line.

  5. During regular play, any player can drop the ball from their hands and kick it while it's in the air so that it goes over the opponent's goalposts. This is a difficult skill and is rarely attempted, but if successful, it earns the team 1 point.
