Which is smaller, asteroids or Mercury?

Which is smaller, asteroids or Mercury?

Mercury is much smaller than most asteroids.

Here's a breakdown:

  • Mercury: The smallest planet in our solar system, with a diameter of about 4,879 kilometers (3,032 miles).
  • Asteroids: Come in various sizes, ranging from tiny pebbles just meters across to the behemoth Ceres, which boasts a diameter of 946 kilometers (588 miles). However, the vast majority of asteroids are significantly smaller than Mercury, with most being less than 100 kilometers (62 miles) in diameter.

To put it in perspective, Mercury’s mass is almost 500 times greater than the combined mass of all known asteroids. So, while there are a few large asteroids like Ceres, Mercury wins the size race by a landslide.
