Ja Morant is an American professional basketball player for the Memphis Grizzlies of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Murray State Racers, where he was a consensus first-team All-American as a sophomore in 2019.

Morant was born in Dalzell, South Carolina, on August 10, 1999. He began playing basketball at a young age and joined Crestwood High School in Sumter, South Carolina. He was a standout player at Crestwood, leading the team to a state championship in 2017.

Morant committed to play college basketball at Murray State University. He quickly became a star for the Racers, leading them to a 26-3 record and a berth in the NCAA Tournament as a freshman. Morant was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Year and the Freshman of the Year.

As a sophomore, Morant took his game to another level. He averaged 24.5 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 10.0 assists per game, leading the Racers to a 31-3 record and a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. Morant was named the National Player of the Year and the OVC Player of the Year for the second consecutive season.
